"Eyes Wide Open, Boston, Summer of 2006"

This is a coupling of images from the traveling exhibition 'Eyes Wide Open' that placed in rank and file a pair of boots for each soldier/sailor/airman who was lost in what was then the new military engagement in the Persian Gulf. The exhibit was a quiet place, only the occasional sob broke the silence. When I saw this in 2006 I was overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of boots at a staggering 2500 pairs. If we knew then what we know now would we have been so eager to sound our war drums?
